I used to do content photoshoots and videoshoots for my friends who are into content creation. Below are the main objects that are a must whenever I have to do one of these shoots and the things that are in my backpack whenever I go out to these shoots. Hopefully this will also apply to those who are also planning to do content creation or pursuing a career in media.
As some photoshoots can take a long time. I tend to bring at least 1 or 2 extra batteries for my camera so that i the event that my camera does die, I can still continue the shoot for the rest of the time to keep the content creation within a short time frame so that they can post it quickly. I normally charge these extras the day before to ensure that the batteries are full before the shoot itself.
The DSLR Camera I use is a Canon eos 500D, an older model but can still take high quality pictures. I make sure that there is an SD card inside so that the pictures I take and can take are to its maximum capacity and will not affect the nature and timeframe of the shoot. I currently have 2 lens that go with the camera to ensure I can have variety in how much zoom is needed in the shot.
One of the key aspects to making videos is making sure the sound is right so I use high quality in ear monitors to make sure that the video sound is right and when there is dialogue to make sure that there is no unwanted noise or sounds in the final shot. These in ear monitors also help me to focus on the video I am taking and making the sound match with what I am going for.
The laptop is essential as it provides a space where the pictures can be viewed instead of from the camera so that those in the shot can see how the pictures can be taken and some edits can be done on the location so it can save on the editing time and could help with an earlier release of the content that we are making. This would also allow me to send the pictures to them faster if they want to edit the pictures on their own.
When we do video shoots, having quality sound is important, so I make sure to have a good quality microphone so that the sound that is being recorded is high quality and has its own noise suppression so that there is minimal background noise. We can also adjust how sensitive the microphone input so that if we need to take a video that seems natural, we can control how much background noise there is so it sounds more ambient and to the surroundings.
A wireless mouse is so that when using the laptop it is easier to navigate especially when editing on the fly where having to be specific in the software is more important. The mouse provides a precision when editing media files whether be it audio or video projects. This precision can save a lot of time in producing the final project.
Inside the notebook is the rough sketch and schedule for the day, its to ensure and keep track of the content that is being made and the locations and requirements that are needed so that every minute of the shoot is optimised to ensure the best result. The notebook also contains the storyboard of the content so that we can have a rough idea of what kind of content and what we would need before going into the editing stage so that we do not have to go back and shoot something else that we missed the first time.
Since these content shoots can take a while, to ensure that most of the devices present can last the whole time. I bring a power brick so that I can always charge my devices whenever they are onlow battery, this would really help all those involved keep track and stay focused on the content we are creating or if there are any chnages made it could help in how we communicate such changes.
